Asthma, Cancer and Neuropsychology and Nutrition, Ayurveda drug development

Dr. Asmita Wele is the professor and head of the department of Rasashastra and Bhaishajyakalpana [Ayurveda pharmacology] at College of Ayurveda Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University in Pune, India. She successfully completed her 3-year tenure at Hungary as chair professor and has been awarded Honorary Professorship at University of Debrecen, Hungary. Her expertise lies in designing and execution of end-to-end research projects of various types. She has been the principal investigator of DST for database project and AYUSH drug development projects. She contributed substantially as the member of AYUSH-International Co-operation committee, of scientific advisory committee of Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar and of BoS and Academic Council of BHU, Varanasi; and of RGUHS, Bangalore. She has delivered about 125 lectures as a resource person in several interdisciplinary workshops and conferences and on public platforms. She has guided 15 masters students and 2 Ph. D. students, and some more are pursuing. She is often invited to be a Ph.D referee for RMIT university, Melbourne, Australia. She has published over 50 research papers, articles, chapters and authored a book on research methodology for Ayurveda. She is a reviewer for some indexed journals from Elsevier, Scopus and PubMed databases. She has been the associate editor of Journal of Natural Health Product Research (NHPRS), Canada. Her areas of special interest are Asthma, Cancer and Neuropsychology and Nutrition apart from her expertise in Ayurveda drug development. She is a member of Pharmacopoeia Commission of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy (PCIM&H).

Consistent with her family legacy of 'Vaidya' tradition from Goa, Dr. Asmita has earned her B. A. M. S. and M. D. degrees from the University of Poona (SPPU). She has completed GCP Training by CDSCO and EC-IRB training by DAIDS supported by NIH and completed certificate courses on Designs of Clinical Trial, Reviewer Training and Book Writing. She was the Ayurveda Expert and co-rapporteur for the historic working group meeting for development of WHO Benchmark documents on Panchakarma, Ayurveda Practice and Training. She is an active member of many organizations. She has travelled to Europe, USA, Mexico, Africa, Nordic countries, Middle East, UK etc on professional assignments. She also has her private clinic in Pune.

Dr Rajmohan V has completed his Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Ayurveda from Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram. He was a medical officer at the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine and Research Officer at the Drug Standardization Unit under the Directorate of Ayurveda medical education, Government of Kerala. His teaching career started at Vaidyaratnam P S Varier Ayurveda College, Kottakkal, and subsequently to Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram, and Government Ayurveda College, Kannur. Presently he is the Associate Professor of Rasasastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana at Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram.

Dr Rajmohan V was the technical committee member of the School of Ayurveda and the School of Health Policy and Planning of Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS). He was the member of the Travancore-Cochin Medical Council. He is an invited faculty to the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, University of Calicut, Kerala. Dr Rajmohan V is the coordinator of the Task Force constituted by the Kerala Government for utilising Ayurveda in the prevention, mitigation and rehabilitation of COVID-19 in Kerala. He is also the State coordinator of the State Ayurveda COVID-19 Response Cell, Department of AYUSH, Government of Kerala and the nodal officer Kerala for COVID-19 activities to the Department of AYUSH, Government of India. Dr Rajmohan V is currently designated as the special officer of the International Research Institute of Ayurveda developing under the Government of Kerala.

He has effectively contributed to the development of the vision document and perspective plan for KUHS. He was one of the High Impact Project (HIP) coordinators of Ayurveda for the Department of AYUSH, Government of India, and was a member of the Central Council of Indian Medicine syllabus committee. He was one of the chief organisers, and scientific committee convenor of the first International AYUSH Conclave organised by the Kerala Government in 2019. Dr Rajmohan V was the member representing Ayurveda in the High-Power Delegation of Government of Kerala to Japan and the Republic of Korea led by the Honorable Chief Minister of Kerala. During the diplomatic mission, his deliberations and initiatives have facilitated various academic and research collaborations in Ayurveda between Kerala and Japan.

Dr Rajmohan V was the invited faculty to Ayurveda Day 2020 celebrations at Philipines organised by the Indian Missions. As the State Ayurvedic COVID-19 response cell coordinator, Dr Rajmohan V was instrumental in designing Ayur Raksha Clinics and different ayurvedic programmes against the COVID-19 pandemic in Kerala, which later proved to be a glorious success of Ayurvedic public health activities ever in the state. He has represented Ayurveda in the transdisciplinary conference jointly organised by St.Xavier's College, Mumbai and Creighton University, USA, in 2019 at Mumbai. He has been a resource person to numerous International and National seminars and conferences since 2007 and has many publications to his credit. He is the winner of the SKM Research Scholar (2010) Award for his outstanding contribution to Research Methodologies in Ayurveda. Recently, the Chalakkudy Municipality awarded Padmabhushan Ragavan Thirumulpad Puraskaram to Dr Rajmohan V for his outstanding contribution as a teacher of Ayurveda. He is a teacher, clinician, and researcher focusing on Rasayana, ageing, cancer, and Ayurvedic Drug validation.

Dr. Ramya currently works as Vice Principal, Associate Professor And Head, for Dept.of Pancakarma, Ashtamgam Ayurveda Vidyapeedam. She currently pursuing her PhD at Kerala university of health Sciences.

Dr Somit Kumar, MD(Ayu), (PhD) currently is Director Research, AVP Research foundation, Coimbatore and CEO AVP Baltics a European venture of AVP, India. He is also associated in the capacity of University Lecturer and Research Scholar at the University of Latvia. His primary area of research activity includes Clinical Research and Reverse pharmacology in Ayurveda.

Having completed his Post Graduate Degree in Dravya Guna (Ayurveda Pharmacology) and currently pursuing his doctoral research in the department of molecular biology at University of Latvia, to understanding and elucidate molecular mechanism behind Ayurveda based formulation in the field of Chronic diabetic wound healing.

He is also involved in researches in the field of rare Genetic disorder Duchene Muscular Dystrophy and working as co-investigator in this project with the University of Milan and AYUSH. He is also co-investigator for clinical study in association with the University of Latvia to evaluate the efficacy of customized Ayurveda therapy in Type 2 diabetes. Working as a Principal Investigator COVID research on moderate to severe patients along Stanley medical college, Chennai and PSG medical college, Coimbatore funded by AYUSH. He is also part of author team which has translated Astanga Hridayam in the Latvian language.

Dr Somit Kumar has been an active clinician for past 17 years and specializes in Kerela based Panchakarma technique. His area of expertise includes the spectrum of Diabetes and its complications, other metabolic & neuroendocrine disorder, Rheumatologic disorder, skin and Autoimmune disorders. Following the whole system approach in Ayurveda, his clinical consultation includes diet and lifestyle suggestions, Ayurveda medication, Yoga and cognitive counselling. He has been invited across the globe to give a presentation at international seminars, academic lectures and consultation namely in Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, Turkey, Slovenia, Hungary, Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, Italy etc. He is a core faculty member of AVP training academy which conducts regular short-term Ayurveda orientation programs for students from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Japan, Switzerland and Latvia.

 

Dr Amit Nakanekar, BAMS, MD (Kayachikitsa), Ph.D(Kayachikitsa), Post-doctoral fellowship in transdisciplinary research at Pune University sponsored by the Department of Health Research Government of India. He is a recipient of the Young Researcher Award by Govt of Maharashtra and Trinity Group. Also he is a reviewer for various Government Funding Agencies for Research Projects worked as a project reviewer under the Council for Science and Technology Uttar Pradesh state Government.

He is a Reviewer for various PubMed-indexed journals and a Mentor for the peer review academy, MOOC was developed by BHU by the Ministry of Health Research and Development. He achieved the MUHS gold medal in the Spandan cultural event for three years and a bronze medal in the INDRADHANUSHYA government of Maharashtra cultural meet as a MUHS representative. He also received a Bronze medal in population project by GOI as a MUHS representative. He is Abhinaya Gunvatta Praman in the Government of Maharashtra cultural event.
