Dr. Ramesh Bhat, a gold medallist in BAMS completed his Master of Surgery (Ayurveda) from Government Ayurveda Medical College-Bengaluru and Ph.D. in Ayurveda (Shalya Tantra) from Banaras Hindu University Varanasi, India. He has more than 23 years of rich clinical experience in the management of diseases of coloproctology with Ayurveda. He treated the World's first complex and challenging case reported as ‘complex anal fistula with foot extension’ successfully with an Ayurvedic parasurgical technique – Ksharasutra therapy. This was published in the International Journal of Surgery. He presented paper on ‘Daycare proctology in Ayurveda’ and also made an Ayurvedic representation in ‘International conference on surgery’ at Las Vegas, USA. This is considered to be the first paper presented in an International conference about Ayurvedic parasurgical procedure. He developed innovative techniques with a high success rate in the management of ‘Anal fistula’. Doctor has treated more than 5000 patients of disease of colon, rectum and anus, more than 1000 complex and recurrent anal fistula, 300 cases of recurrent pilonidal sinus without recurrence, and more than 2000 cases of haemorrhoids by ksharatherapy without complications, with high success rate. He started and has fully established specialty surgical centres in Karnataka Tamilnadu and Kerala and trained several Ayurveda Surgeons in the management of anorectal diseases.
